1)      BULLYING and how to raise awareness of what to do, who to talk to and different ways to help-  YEAR 11 Shelley and Gina

We think we should do more to share awareness of what we do to stop bullying.  How can we share with the pupils what we do?

Where you can go and what you can do.

BL- we are doing much more to stop bullying (such as mediation) than pupils realise. We need to get an understanding of what bullying is – it is not falling out.

Sam P- we have got a rota of peer mentors and there are posters coming about peer mentoring. That is peer mentoring and the way we deal with bullying is more complex.

Shelley Jenkins and Gina cooper, Laura Dodsworth, Samantha Paddison and Danielle Watson

Led by Ashleigh Freear.

Group to

1)     Define bullying in a way pupils can understand (and make it clear what bullying is not)

2)     What a pupil can do if they are being bullied

3)     What kind of outcomes can result.

4)     Decide how this is going to be communicated to pupils.

REPORT BACK ON THIS NEXT MEETING.

(use anti bullying policy, speak to Miss Comerford, Mrs Loft, peer mentors. Get it checked by Mrs Loft. )

Tuesday next week at lunchtime in C22

2)      THE LITTLE WALL the fence. Is it a safety hazard? Other ways to block the area off or get rid of it completely? YEAR 8 Emma and mayzie

Pupil flow is a problem (we have lots of people).  And tree stump On agenda for Monday SLT – PAE

3)      HEAD OF YEARS how we can get to know them, have more one to one time, make them more apparent and easy to speak to YEAR 9 Georgie and Julia

We only see our head of years in assembly (unless you have them for a lesson). We are told if we have a problem to see your head of year but if you don’t know them this is hard. We don’t feel like we know them and feel distant from them. We really like it when they come into forms; we know they can’t do this all the time.

To slt – some pupils do not know what the process is to report problems – on agenda next Monday PAE.

4)      DINNER CARDS more machines for when the one in the hall doesn’t work, easier way of using them (card unable to swipe) YEAR 10 Samantha and Danielle

Dinner card machines are not working well and they are making us late sometimes. Could we have another way to put money on?

BL You can do it on the phone or the internet (your parents have to do it)  BL is meeting (in Jan) with the group that provides IT solutions

Minutes from the last meeting!- see the end for messages

Minutes from 17th October.

1)   We discussed several lessons where the style of teaching and tasks set had really helped us to learn.

We will send postcards to some teachers to say thank you.

  • In a language class we had a lesson that we did not understand. The teacher retaught the whole lesson differently and we all understand it now
  • In an English lesson we all did a part of a task for homework and emailed it to our teacher. The teacher put it all together and sent it to us so we benefitted from what everyone else had done.
  • In a language lesson there are some revision materials that help us made by our teacher. The teacher records how to pronounce the words and we can use the recordings at home when we revise. The teacher also made a grid for us to use.
  • In English a teacher sat with each of us and gave us individual feedback on our controlled assessments. It really helped. She then gave up time after school so that we could improve our work. We really appreciate how much time she spends on us.

Actions

1)   PAE to email staff to say what was great. This feedback will always be anonymous.

2)   School Council to send thank you cards to some teachers

3)   BL to email staff and explain this.

2)   Water fountains

Please may we have more water machines?

The one we do have is slow to work and it takes ages to fill up a bottle.

BL- we will look at this as part of BSF and we cannot put machines in other places as there is no way to ensure they will not be misused.

Actions

1)   George Sturman to meet with Miss Turner to talk about water machines.

2)   At break time additional water will be made available so pupils can fill up bottles

3)   PAE offers top floor as C block as possible area for water fountain.

4)   Ashleigh Freear to go to assembly and talk to all students about water. Remind them they can only drink water in lessons, no other drinks. In science and IT water is not allowed.

5)   BL to send water policy to staff.

3)   Healthy food at break time.

The year 11 food at break is much better- thank you.

Is it possible to have a bit less choice of unhealthy things and more fruit? Or some healthier sandwiches, some fruit juice (even in plastic cups like other drinks) or some breakfast bars?

Actions

Chris and Holly to speak to Miss Turner

4)   Few sanctions trip.

Last year Mrs Nelson did a trip for pupils with 95% plus attendance and who had only a few sanctions. It was a great trip and motivated pupils. Could we have a similar trip this year?

Actions

Ashliegh to email Mr L and explain why the students liked the trip so much and why it was so good. Then they will discuss asking if a member of staff would consider running a trip like that this year.

5)   Progress boards

The students love the progress boards in Mr Harmer’s room and Mrs Evans’ room. It motivates students and lets studnets compare themselves to others of the same VA.

Please could other staff use their own boards?

Actions

Chris and Holly to write why the boards are so helpful and send their thoughts to Mr L.

6) College Meetings.

We know the meetings are very important but could we re-arrange them when we have assessments?

Action

PAE to speak to Mrs Roache

Next Meeting

(item requested by students) Feedback and marking- how it helps us learn.

The school council badges are in. They will be give out in the next meeting. 9th November
